11 Plus

Foundation course – Year 3
This course is aimed at children in Year 3 to help secure a better understanding of Maths and English, and begin to introduce some of the concepts taught on the 11 Plus. Creating a strong foundation to start our 11 Plus course in Year 4.

Year 4 11 Plus
Children will attend once a week to help embed core 11 plus skills in preparation for the 11 plus assessment. We look to introduce core maths and English skills, as well as introduce how to solve verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions. Children begin their journey on our very own bespoke 11 Plus Course.

Year 5 11 Plus
Children look to embed the curriculum knowledge needed to be successful in passing the 11 plus. Whilst completing our own up to date 11 Plus Course, we look to further their curriculum knowledge as well as giving them tips to completely answer all question on the 11 Plus assessment in this region.

11 Plus Journey

Over the years, the 11 plus journey for children and parents has becoming more challenging and daunting. Increased competition and constant changes to the exam has made it more difficult.

Nevertheless, At Mr Singh’s Tuition, we understand the challenges that parents’ can face when going through this process. Our experience in guiding children to pass the test, but also help making our parents’ journey as smooth as possible.

We provide all up to date resources, and provide all the guidance both parents and children need to make passing the 11 Plus as easy as possible.

West Midlands Grammar Schools

There are up to 18 grammar schools in the West Midlands Grammar School Partnership. Each school will select children from Year 6 based on their high competitive test scores in English, Maths, Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning.

The test provider is GL (Granada Learning), and takes place at the start of September when children are in Year 6. Results for the 11 Plus will be sent out in October, before parents have to make their school choices.

The grammar test will require separate preparation, as they usually include parts of the national curriculum that children have not yet learnt in school.

Preparation for the 11 Plus at Mr Singh’s Tuition

At Mr Singh’s Tuition, we begin preparation for the 11 Plus in Year 4. The aim in Year 4 is to create a solid foundation across Maths, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning. This knowledge is then built upon further in Year 5, helping to concrete and embed the knowledge and skills required to be successful in the 11 Plus examination.

We have many children join us in part way through the course, even in Year 5. All children are given an initial assessment, which helps to identify any curriculum gaps they may have, which helps us create a personalised plan for them.

We understand that every child is different. Our small groups (1:6) help to cater for all the children’s needs, no matter of their ability or confidence. With no more than six children in a group, a qualified teacher will help to get the best out of every child, and our assistants help to develop relationships and children’s confidence further. Children being comfortable and in a safe environment is paramount at Mr Singh’s Tuition.

Over the duration of the course, children will cover all the Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning curriculum required to be successful.

We have always prided ourselves on increasing the confidence of the children who attend our classes, as this helps them to feel motivated for the challenges of 11 plus and makes them more resilient.
